High costs and shortages will put more emphasis on appropriate use of albumin (Albuked, Flexbumin, etc).

Be aware that this “colloid” fluid may be ordered when patients with sepsis don’t have an adequate blood pressure response to lactated Ringer’s or other first-line “crystalloid” fluid.

Anticipate that 5% albumin will be preferred in these cases...to help provide needed volume.
